Unfortunately, due to the
fact that true Kona Coffee is so highly prized among devotees of quality
beans, there are a lot of subtle and not so subtle practices being
employed to stretch the limited annual supply of Kona Coffee. In fact, one
University of Hawaii study found that while only 2 million pounds of true
Kona Coffee are grown and processed annually, some 20 million pounds of
"Kona" are being sold each year.
With the royal prices
charged for Kona Coffee it would be nice if the coffee lovers of the world
had some assurance of purity in their Kona purchases. Sadly, repeated
efforts to create a governing board to regulate the Kona Coffee industry
have continually been 'swept under the rug', primarily by the large coffee
companies who stand to lose the most money if the public were able to have
an accurate assessment of the percentage of true Kona in some of the
"Kona" products being sold for top dollar.
DO NOT BUY KONA COFFEE
BLENDS. They only contain 10% (or less) Kona Coffee. THEY ARE JUNK.
RULE #1: if it doesn't say
100% Kona Coffee, it a blend.
